At TWU, the four semesters in nursing school have names that coincide with your status as a student. Because these four semesters are the last two years of a bachelor’s degree, theoretically the students should be new juniors when they begin nursing school. Thus, the first semester is named “J1” – meaning Junior 1. Second semester, “J2”, third semester, “S1” (for Senior), and fourth semester, “S2”.
I received my J1 schedule and clinical placement at orientation!
So, here’s my Spring 2013 semester schedule:
- Nursing Assessment Lecture: 2pm-4:30pm
- Pharmacology Lecture: 9am-12pm
- Concepts & Clinical Competencies Lecture: 1pm-4pm
- Nursing Assessment Lab: 12:30pm-4:30pm
- Concepts & Clinical Competencies Lab: 8am-2pm
For the first 6 weeks of the semester, our Concepts Lab is going to take place on campus, so we can learn skills before entering the hospital. After the first 6 weeks, the Concepts Lab becomes CLINICALS! And we’re then going to be in the hospital all day practicing our newly learned skills. 🙂
My clinical site is going to be Methodist Dallas Medical Center. It is actually my third choice for placement, but I am ok with that…I know everything happens for a reason, and there is a reason that this site was the one assigned to me. I can’t wait to get started!!
